Canada’s PNP immigration results for August 2021- An Overview

The month of August has been busy for Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). The programs issued over 3,400 invitations to apply for provincial nomination during August. Except for Quebec and Nunavut, almost all the Canadian provinces operate their own Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Having their immigration programs allows provincial governments to select the most suitable people to meet their local labor market needs and to manage the regional settlement of the immigrant population within their jurisdiction.

The PNP became the second most important route to permanent residence in Canada since its launch; PNPs alone are expected to result in more than 80,000 immigrants per year being admitted as permanent residents, between now and 2023. Canada’s principal source of economic immigration is the federal Express Entry system and most participating provinces and territories have at least one PNP stream that is aligned with it.

In August, IRCC conducted two Express Entry draws targeting PNP candidates, issuing 512 ITAs on August 4 and another 463 on August 18. While the number of Express Entry invitations issued this past month was low compared to June and July, the number of invitations issued through Express Entry hit high records. IRCC has now issued over 100,000 ITAs this year.

Saskatchewan

 The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) held a total of four invitation rounds through the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories of the International Skilled Worker Category in August, issuing a total of 948 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination. This is significantly more than the 575 invitations issued by the province.

British Columbia

Over the past month, the province has invited more than 900 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration streams closely matching the number of invitations issued over the past months.

Ontario

The province held a total of five draws this month through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The first draw took place on August 6 with the province issuing two invitations to apply under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker and Employer job offer: International Student streams. These were targeted draw under the economic Mobility Pathways Project. The province of Ontario invited 875 immigration candidates to apply for provincial nominations.

Alberta

In August, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)’s Express Entry Stream held the biggest draw of 2021. The draw was held on August 10 and invited 396 candidates with CRS scores of at least 300.

Manitoba

The province of Manitoba held one draw through the following three streams: Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education Stream, and Skilled Workers Overseas in August. The draw was held on August 12 with 275 Letters of Advice to Apply issued of which 36 were issued to candidates who declared a valid Express Entry,

Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island held a pre-scheduled draw on August 19 and issued a combined 161 invitations to immigration candidates. Most of the invitations, 152, were issued to Express Entry and Labor Impact candidates. The remaining nine invitations went to Business Impact candidates who had a minimum point threshold of 75.

Canada Start-up Visa: How does a Business incubator function?

Business incubators are entities that offer support to applicants for permanent residence under the Start-Up Visa program to qualify for immigration and start their businesses. They essentially nurture start-ups and help them navigate the host of challenges to get the financial, human, and physical resources they need to survive and thrive over months or sometimes years. Business incubators play a vital role in Canada’s economic development.

These incubators guide the entrepreneurs right from the inception of the business when it’s just an idea, and provide office space, administrative support, mentorship and training, and access to investors and capital. Business incubators are themselves run as non-profit organizations or businesses these entities help entrepreneurs with:

• Developing relationships with financial partners, business consultants, management-level execs;
• Finding office space and business hardware and software, and;
• Accessing research through relationships with universities and governmental agencies.

Under the Start-Up Visa program, upcoming entrepreneurs hoping to gain permanent residence in Canada require the support of a venture capital fund, an angel investor group, or a business incubator. These organizations choose which business proposals to review and each has its intake process for proposals and criteria used to assess them. If one of these organizations gives a green light to the Start-Up Visa program applicant’s proposal, it will provide a letter of support, allowing the prospective immigrant to continue with the process. Several Business incubators have been approved by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to support immigrants through the Start-Up Visa program.

Ontario conducts first PNP invitation round for Master’s and Ph.D. grads

The province of Ontario held its first round of invitations for the Master’s Graduate and Ph.D. Graduate streams, after two weeks of revamping the intake system for the two provincial immigration programs. The province invited 479 candidates between two immigration programs to apply for a provincial nomination.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 479 international student graduates to apply for a provincial nomination on August 18. For the Master’s Graduate stream Ontario invited 402 to apply. The candidates who were invited needed Expression of Interest (EOI) scores of at least 39 to receive an invitation. For the Ph.D. Graduate stream, Ontario invited 77 candidates with EOI scores of 17 and above.

Masters Graduate and Ph.D. Graduate streams

The master’s graduate and Ph.D. graduate streams are Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) that operate under Ontario’s EOI system. If you want to be considered for either the Master’s Graduate or Ph.D. Graduate streams, you will require to sign-up with Ontario’s e-Filing Portal then register an expression of interest for your graduate stream. If you are eligible, you will receive an invitation to apply for the provincial nomination. You will also need to apply for the nomination within two years of graduating. You do not need a job offer to apply for these streams.

Gain points for Ontario immigration

There are several human capital factors that the province will decide to determine rank EOI profiles. The factors will be significant in selecting immigrants with the potential to thrive. You get points for the skill level of your job offer and also your Canadian work experience.

The OINP scoring system is different depending on which stream you apply for. Other than skill level and work experience, it also takes into account your wage, education, official language ability, and the region in which you study or work. The province also allocates 10 points at its discretion to respond to labor market needs.

The Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) serves people with criminal inadmissibility issues as a temporary solution to enter Canada. The best approach for foreign nationals in applying for TRPs through a Canadian consulate is a better option although it involves significant processing time, it is considered useful as a decision will be made by an experienced immigration officer who understands the many reasons why your visit could be justified. You will know in advance of your trip if you are allowed into the country

The port entries of Canada include airports, land crossings, or sea entry points. A passport will be required to enter the country essentially, at all these ports. The advantage of applying at a POE is immediate processing. A Canadian immigration officer will consider and process the application, right there. The officer will balance the person’s need to enter Canada against the health and security risks to the Canadian population. Officers often decide on temporary resident permit applications at POEs in a manner of minutes. However, the disadvantage of applying for a TRP at a port of entry is the uncertainty. You won’t know whether your application will be approved or denied by the immigration officer that reviews your application until the day you try to enter Canada.
